Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is actively seeking an Engineering Intern for employment in the Coral Gables, Florida or Fort Lauderdale, Florida office. The successful candidate will support the civil design teams in South Florida by working with different disciplines to complete a variety of projects. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with a variety of exciting and challenging projects locally and worldwide.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of water and wastewater projects for a variety of clients.

  • Assist with discrete work tasks required in preparation of hydraulic modeling of potable water, reclaimed water, and wastewater systems.

  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Carry out engineering analyses and prepare reports and technical specifications under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Work collaboratively within project teams to ensure project objectives are met within the defined scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Collect and analyze data, perform field work, and undertake site inspections under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Attend site visits and meetings in clients’ offices.

  • Maintain project records and files, contribute to the preparation of progress reports, and communicate project and task updates to team members and supervisors as needed.

  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level member.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering field or Environmental Studies with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.

  • Candidates must have completed two years of study in their program.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Degree emphasis in water resources, water or wastewater treatment, or conveyance/pipelines.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

  • Proficient in Civil 3D, Revit, ArcMap, SWMM, ICPR, or other engineering software packages.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Detail-oriented while still being able to understand and comply with the big picture and goals of a project.

  • Documents time and effort accurately.

  • Interest in water/wastewater infrastructure design.

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Coral Gables, FL . The selected candidate must be available to work in Coral Gables, FL on a scheduled basis.

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $20.00/hour - $28.00/hour.
