Job Description

We are looking for a candidate to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice located in our Germantown, Maryland office as an Structural Dam Safety Engineer .

This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities. This position will report to one of the AECOM offices in the East Region including but not limited to Germantown, Maryland; Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; or Syracuse, New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to dam project managers, including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.

  • Perform detail checks and quality reviews of other Engineer's work.

  • Perform dam analysis and design such as structural stability and strength analysis of concrete dams and appurtenant structures (spillways, outlet works, and other site civil structures).

  • Prepare structural evaluation reports, drawings, and specifications for dam projects.

  • Communicate with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.

  • Prepare structural drawings and visual aids through coordination with CAD team.

  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and codes.

  • Prepare and presenting technical presentations to internal project team.

  • Responsible for quality control of small tasks or segments of larger projects.

  • Conduct field observations and site visits for dam safety inspections and dam construction oversight.

  • Lead and mentor junior staff.

  • Progression toward greater responsibility, including task and project management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering.

  • 6 years of relevant experience with dam safety projects with an emphasis on Structural Engineering, including rehabilitation and/or new design and construction.

  • Successful completion of the Principles of Engineering (PE) exam.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.

  • Ability and desire to occasionally travel to project sites, both local and remote.

  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.

  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility.

  • Resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • Effective time-management and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with related software such as AutoCAD, Mathcad, STADD Pro and Ansys.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $100,000.00 - $130,000.00.
