Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented senior or mid-level Siting Specialist for immediate employment in either the Conshohocken/Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Arlington, Virginia, or Germantown, Maryland offices. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment.

This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s utility clients, including electric utilities, natural gas, solar, offshore wind, and many others. AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) team works a wide variety of utility based projects which include environmental impact studies, utility site and routing studies, environmental field reviews (i.e., routing analysis, wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, etc.), environmental permitting at the state, federal, and local levels, GIS analysis and data management, and many others.

The position will work on projects based in the eastern United States including but not limited to Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, and Delaware. Opportunities to work in other geographic areas may also be part of this position.

The position reports to the Environmental Manager in the Conshohocken, PA office but the candidate may be located in other AECOM offices as listed above. Teleworking may be considered based on AECOM’s Freedom to Grow opportunities.

The job responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Possess an in depth working knowledge of the overall utility Siting process (site development/ routing development), public utility regulations and applications, and a working understanding of the desktop and field review processes which contribute to the Siting process.

  • Solid technical writing skills, and capabilities to review collected and metrics assessment for route and site assessments.

  • Coordinate associated utility commission application inputs such as Siting study report information, GIS mapping, testimony documents, and client provided information, and other inputs which contribute to siting studies and utility applications.

  • Team focused- be able to lead a team of contributors and communicate and coordinate with clients to drive demanding schedules while maintaining an elevated level of quality.

  • Coordinating with AECOM teams such as cultural resources, ecologists/biologists, GIS, civil engineering, and others.

  • Prepare for, plan, and attend public meetings or support virtual public meetings online content development.

  • Attend site walkdowns and meetings as part of the Siting process.

  • Ability to work as a team lead or independently as a technical lead.

  • Assisting Senior Staff with business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients.

  • Periodically, work requires extended hours, remotely, night work, and/or overnight travel.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Studies, Geography/Regional Planning or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review

  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required

  • The position requires occasional fieldwork, and the candidate must be able to travel (including overnight)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Studies, Geography/Regional Planning or related field

  • 7+ years of experience performing ecological risk assessments in an environmental consulting setting.

  • Strong background in siting experience, technical writing, data review, GIS analysis, and preparation of public utility applications, supporting information, public outreach planning, preparation of environmental or other relevant assessments.

  • Significant technical writing experience specifically in authoring Siting studies, FERC, or NEPA based reports.

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products with a strong understanding of GIS processes and capabilities related to utility Siting and site/route analysis.

  • Experience working with electric utilities, natural gas, solar, hydrogen and/or energy clients.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • High degree of self-motivation and team leadership skills.

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $85,000.00 - $135,000.00.
