Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Highway/age Engineer for immediate employment in the Greenville, Columbia or N. Charleston Offices.

The position involves performing planning, design and construction engineering for roadway, hydraulic/drainage and bridge projects to support Project Managers with Hydrology & Hydraulic engineering tasks. This person should have a strong background in water resources and hydraulics. Responsibilities may include preparation of deliverables such as calculations, drawings, and specifications related to roadway projects. The candidate should be a motivated self-starter who displays a passion for solving problems, interacting in a team environment, and meeting established deadlines.

  • Hydraulic Design for infrastructure projects including but not limited to design of storm sewers, culverts, ditches, and erosion and sediment control.

  • Design of stormwater management facilities to meet current regulations.

  • Development of construction plans and specifications

  • Preparation of construction cost estimates.

  • Assist in writing reports and developing client presentations.

  • Construction Engineering Services

The candidate can look forward to working under the direction of a professional or experienced engineer and have the following responsibilities:

  • Assignments usually include one or more of the following: calculations, preparation of plans and specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in a specific narrow area of assignments.

  • Conducts calculation checks

  • Prepares project deliverables

  • Draws engineering conclusions for data analysis within area of technical proficiency

  • Works on small projects or portions of larger projects, with work being reviewed by senior or appropriately experienced engineer

  • Researches and ensures assignments meet regulatory and industry codes, laws and requirements, as well as client requirements.

  • Determines the permitting requirements for the particular type of work being designed for the location in which it is to be constructed

  • Using prescribed methods and under direct supervision, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer

  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes

  • Prepares/supervises the preparation of drawings and visual aids

  • Under the direction of a professional or suitably experienced engineer, independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptions and modifications

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree plus 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalence of experience and/or education.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required, due to the nature of the work.

  • Valid Driver’s License, and must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school

  • SCDOT Experience

  • Permitting with OCRM Experience

  • Experience with HEC-GeoRAS, SWMM, SRH2D

  • Licensed Professional Engineer

  • Must have passed the FE Exam.

  • Experience on Transportation Projects

  • Good computer skills using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Proficient in Geopak Drainage, HY8

  • Must be able to work well in a team environment

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent organizational skills

  • Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to highway geometric design, intersection design, utilities, infrastructure, earthwork, drainage and streetscape

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $55,000.00 - $100,000.00.
