We are looking to enhance and grow the team in Chesterfield with people who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination so have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer with experience of the design and maintenance of major highways.
The team is currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging major highways projects including A38 Derby Junctions and the M54-M6 Link Road, part of Highways England’s Regional Investment Programme.
You will be professionally qualified (CEng or IEng) or working towards a professional qualification. You will have a proven design and project management record with experience of working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The services that we offer to clients include the full range and scope of highways work from the feasibility stage through the development phase and planning and DCO process, preliminary design, detailed design and site supervision including Design and Build schemes.
As a Senior Engineer, you will be a self-motivated individual who will be responsible for leading a small design team within a large project. You will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from Chesterfield for a short duration to suit project needs. The role will suit an individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in delivering high-quality projects assisting the Design Lead in the development of schemes.
Job Responsibilities include:
An appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/Project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the expected standards:
Undertake highway design in accordance with UK standards and best practice including DMRB and MCHW
Deliver specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required;
Ensure compliance with relevant technical standards and undertake checks of designs completed by others
Manage the workload and the technical management and oversight of design team members
Undertake Health & Safety duties, fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design including preparing designer’s risk assessments
Technical management of tasks within the wider design team including management of junior staff or sub-teams.
Construct project information models in a BIM environment
Work collaboratively with colleagues and clients, using tools for information sharing such as Common Data Environments
Write and oversee the preparation of contract documents and technical reports
Communicate to junior team members, the Project Manager, wider organisation and external parties
Coach, mentor and develop junior staff
Manage and develop both internal and external client relationships
Identify and manage project risks;

We are seeking experienced individuals with the following attributes:
Knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques and procedures
Understanding of design principles and ability to practically apply them
Significant technical design experience across a range of disciplines to DMRB
Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM
Client focus being able to anticipate future customer needs
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
BSc, BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering
Professionally qualified or working towards the professional qualification
Site supervision experience would be an advantage;
Experience of 3d design modelling
Experience of Bentley OpenRoads / WinDes would be an advantage.
