AECOM Principal Traffic Engineer in Chesterfield, United Kingdom

Job Summary

AECOM’s streets team in Chesterfield are now seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead one of our busy Traffic design teams.

The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of traffic and road safety engineering projects and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface. Our Local Roads team is primarily involved with providing professional and technical support to the MHA Framework, although it provides support to a variety of other clients and also includes road safety auditing and collision investigation.

Our clients are from the private and public sector and include Highways England, Derbyshire County Council, Leicestershire County Council and Manchester Airport.

Role responsibilities:

  • Act as senior technical resource and advisor for the team

  • Provide specialised technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Use expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package

  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

  • Prepare technical specification sections.

  • Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • You will be proficient in CAD and 3D modelling using 3D Civils or OpenRoads programs.

  • You should also be familiar with DMRB and in the preparation of BoQs and Specifications

  • You will be able to manage a project and team from inception to completion of the design.

  • You must be able to communicate at all levels with client and within AECOM

Preferred Qualifications

  • Should be Chartered or equivalent qualification (or nearing chartered status) with experience in design of small to medium highway projects.
