We are looking to enhance and grow the team in Chesterfield with people who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination so have a vacancy for an experienced Principal Engineer with significant experience of the design and maintenance of major highways.
The team is currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging major highways projects including A38 Derby Junctions and the M54-M6 Link Road, part of Highways England’s Regional Investment Programme.
You will be Chartered Engineer with proven design and project management experience. You will have experience of working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team developing a range of major highway projects from initial concept through to detailed design.
The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high-quality projects.
Job Responsibilities include:
An appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/Project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the expected standards:
Produce technical design information including, drawings and specifications
Demonstrate a broad technical understanding across a range of highways disciplines including drainage, geotechnics, pavements and structures, and the ability to seek specialist advice when required
Provide technical input and leadership in the field of highway engineering
Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards
Identify and manage project risks
Deliverer specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required
Manage the workload, technical management and oversight of a design team
Write and oversee the preparation of contract documents and technical reports
Coach and mentor junior staff
Assess staff requirements at each stage of the project
Prepare resource plans, delivery programs, and fee proposals
Undertake Health and Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the design team and fulfilling responsibilities for safety in design
Build and maintain excellent client relationships
Undertake business development activities and secure opportunities with new and existing clients.

Significant experience of highway technical design on major projects
Experience of preparing technical reports
Experience of managing design teams
Site experience during construction
Understanding Health and Safety responsibilities including CDM
Ability to work collaboratively with contractors
BSc, BEng, or higher degree in Civil Engineering
Chartered status and membership of a relevant professional institution (MICE).
