We are seeking an experienced Highway Engineer to join our expanding Highways team in Chesterfield to work on some major projects. The team is currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging major highways projects including A38 Derby Junctions and the M54-M6 Link Road, part of Highways England’s Regional Investment Programme. We are looking for individuals with demonstrable highways experience and a sound technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination.

Our team has an established track record of successfully delivering major highways schemes in a multi-disciplinary environment, working closely with teams across AECOM including bridges, geotechnics, environment and transport planning. The services that we offer to clients include the full range and scope of highways work from the feasibility stage through the development phase and planning and DCO process, preliminary design, detailed design and site supervision including Design and Build schemes.

As a Highways Engineer, you will be a self-motivated individual with proven design experience and be able to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from Chesterfield for a short duration to suit project needs. The role will suit experienced graduates looking to take the next step to progress their career.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of Principal / Senior Engineers to perform tasks in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision, possessing the ability to solve any problems encountered

  • Undertake highway design across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering accordance with UK standards and best practice including DMRB and MCHW

  • Construct project information models in a Common Data Environment

  • Undertake project activities in line with company policy, including technical and commercial aspects.

  • Take an assistant role on projects

  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and apprentices

  • Contribute to technical excellence and innovation including personal, professional development Plan, lead and undertake site visits as required.

  • Plan and attend meetings – internal and external.

  • Liaise with sub-consultants and external parties.

  • Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment including understanding the CDM duties of a designer and preparing designer’s risk assessments

Minimum Requirements

For this role, we are seeking experienced individuals with the following attributes:

  • Previous post-graduation experience in highway design gained within the UK

  • Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges

  • Willing to undertake occasional periods of secondment to construction sites

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Competent in the use of MS Office software

Preferred Qualifications

For this role, we are seeking experienced individuals with the following attributes:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering

  • Previous post-graduation experience in highway design gained within the UK

  • Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges

  • Willing to undertake occasional periods of secondment to construction sites

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Competent in the use of MS Office software

  • Working towards Incorporated/Chartered Engineer status of respective professional institution

  • A full clean driving licence

  • Proficient in the use of 3d Civils / OpenRoads or WinDes

  • CSCS card holder
