Job Summary

The Water Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Water/Wastewater Technical Leader with a focus in water/wastewater treatment plant/infrastructure design, and some experience in conveyance and pumping systems, for immediate employment in our Charlotte, NC office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be a seller/doer and have the opportunity to manage and work with an established team of professional engineers on a variety of water, wastewater, and storm water design projects including water/wastewater treatment facilities, collection and distribution pipelines, pumping stations, and storage systems.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services and will include activities focused on site-specific design of water/wastewater/storm water projects

  • Work with senior members of our Water Business Line team to seek new business opportunities and develop/lead winning teams

  • Supervises and mentors junior staff

  • Manages projects, including scoping, task management, invoicing and final closeout. Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work of a major project, or several small-moderate scope projects.

  • Communicates project tasks between offices – high level of coordination and communication skills required.

  • Makes technical presentations

  • Responsibilities may include overseeing the planning and design of various project elements, the preparation of project reports, hydraulic models, calculations, drawings, construction plans and specifications, permitting packages, and documents for inclusion in the final project deliverables as necessary for the bidding and construction of designed works

  • Construction phase engineering services

  • Coordination with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives

The role will provide the opportunity for development in many aspects of the profession, as well as opportunities for increased responsibility, challenges, people and project management as you work on a variety of challenging projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering- preferably Civil or Environmental

  • 15+ years of experience in municipal water/wastewater treatment plant and infrastructure engineering and design to include conveyance and pumping systems

  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in NC or be able to obtain within 6 months with the ability to become licensed in SC, GA and TN

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to successfully manage diverse teams.

  • Experience mentoring or supervising other engineering professionals

  • Demonstrated project management skills including delivering projects successfully, on time and on budget

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with diverse audience groups including clients, the public, regulatory staff, subconsultants and internal technical staff

  • Experience in preparation of engineering proposals for submission to clients

  • Must have a proven track record of leading technical engineering and successfully managing water and wastewater projects, resulting in securing additional projects from clients

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Positive attitude, good aptitude, and strong initiative will integrate well with our existing group of outstanding professionals

  • Occasional business travel of one to three days per month may be required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering a plus (water/wastewater treatment focus)

  • Experience in managing and/or delivering projects by “alternative delivery” approaches a plus (design/build, progressive design/build, construction management at risk, etc.)
