Job Description

AECOM's Transportation Engineering Group in Calgary is growing! We are seeking a self-driven and motivated intermediate level Transportation Designer to work as part of a broader team delivering a range of urban and rural road and transit projects. Working within the Transportation team, this position is ideal for someone who wants to further their professional development with a leading design firm. Project types range from highways, roadways, interchanges, LRT/transit, rail and/or civil site design.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design integrated municipal roadway, provincial highway, transit systems and active transportation facility projects;

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering designs, design drawings, contract documents, engineering specifications and cost estimates;

  • Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents;

  • Prepare designs using computer design tools (eg. Civil3D) to develop roadways, highway, intersections, transit, utilities, and other transportation project designs and 3D design models

  • Prepare correspondence, engineering reports, proposals, specifications and meeting minutes;

  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Propose solutions and provide recommendations and supporting rationale for project work.

  • Efficiently works and collaborates as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule

  • Perform quality reviews through self- and peer-quality reviews

  • Provide guidance to entry level staff.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Technical Diploma

  • Minimum 2 years experience developing transportation design of roads and highways;

  • Driver’s license

  • Strong proficiency using CAD software to develop transportation designs.

  • Member of Professional Association ASET or APEGA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of Transportation engineering design experience is preferred

  • Strong familiarity of Canadian design standards including those published by TAC, Alberta Transportation and City of Calgary

  • Outstanding skills in Civil3D, OpenRoads, InRoads, Torus, GuideSign, Vehicle Tracking, and AutoTURN

  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in design for public sector clients including the City of Calgary and Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors

  • Strong working knowledge of general civil engineering principles

  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and work well with coworkers, clients and contractors

  • Ability to work in both the in-person and virtual environment

  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $65,000.00 - $90,000.00.
