Job Description
AECOM is currently seeking an experienced intermediate to senior Construction Inspector to support our Transportation business line in the Calgary office. This position offers the opportunity to work on large, unique, and complex transportation projects across Central and Southern Alberta, as well as neighboring provinces and territories.
This is a high-travel role with a strong likelihood of working outside the Calgary area. Depending on the project location, candidates may either commute daily or be required to stay in hotel accommodations for extended periods.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Monitor the quality of work done by contractors constructing rural and urban transportation projects ranging from rehabilitation to large capital assignments
Inspect the quality of materials used on-site and determine compliance with specifications
Monitor contractor activities including safety, environmental, and traffic management
Act as a central liaison between AECOM, clients, and contractors while coordinating with the AECOM project manager
Contract administration – Review RFIs, contractor submittals, NCRs, Change Orders, and conduct bi-weekly construction meetings
Prepare and submit weekly client reports
Track and document monthly pay quantities to support contractor progress payments
Prepare final detail summaries, including quantity summaries and reporting
Coordinate surveying, materials testing, and scale/checker activities
Monitor deadlines, oversee and coordinate project testing, and work with the Contractor
Communicate major issues that affect cost/scope to the Project Engineer
Review procedures with project designers and contractors to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications
Monitor conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties
Conduct daily field inspections, maintain inspection records, and review inspection reports from other team members
Participate in punch list inspections and warranty repairs
Support of out-of-town projects may be required
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Construction, etc.) + 4 years of experience in highway or road construction projects or Technical Diploma + 6 years of relevant experience
Ability to travel to project sites not accessible by public transit. Access to a personal vehicle is required
Preferred Qualifications:
7+ years of roadway construction inspection and supervision experience
P.Eng., CET, or other applicable certifications considered an asset
Field experience in transportation construction for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors and/or City of Calgary preferred
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills to track issues, correspondence, and quantities; proficiency with Microsoft Office
Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
Additional Information
Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $130,000.00.
