Job Description

Would you like to join a passionate and dedicated team involved in some of the largest infrastructure projects in Quebec? AECOM, a world leader in the field of infrastructure, is proud to lead the MLAP joint venture with Hatch (HA), responsible for the owner's engineering services for MLAP, including technical and construction management, estimating, scheduling and coordination to achieve project objectives.

The Mactaquac Generating Station (MQGS), built in the 1960s near Fredericton, is a major hydroelectric facility with a capacity of 672 MW, providing clean, low-cost electricity to approximately 12% of New Brunswick homes and businesses.

AECOM is the engineer of record for major civil, structural and heavy engineering services, responsible for reviewing spans, developing AAR FEA models, refining spans and providing design services for major civil works in collaboration with contractors and NB Power prior to construction.

As part of the duties, you will be responsible for estimates and will also be responsible for consolidating estimates from other disciplines and assume responsibility for the quality of estimates, accuracy of estimating processes and tools.

To fulfill this role successfully, you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Establishing fee budgets for estimating services to be provided on various projects;

  • Ensuring that the choice of estimating software or tools and the type of estimates to be produced are appropriate to the context of each project and to the client's expectations;

  • Coordinate the production of estimates with other disciplines, monitor and consolidate them;

  • Write or validate payment terms in estimates;

  • Produce detailed cost estimates for labor, construction materials and equipment;

  • Calculate quantities or validate quantities established by others;

  • Evaluate indirect project costs;

  • Identify risks and establish contingency provisions;

  • Produce budget estimates based on unit prices;

  • Establish contacts with suppliers of materials and equipment to obtain budget prices;

  • Analyze the impact of changes introduced by addenda, and make any necessary adjustments to estimates;

  • Maintain cost databases for estimating software and tools;

  • Establish and develop consistent and reliable estimating models and standardize the application and use of price grids;

  • Coordinate a cost benchmarking process for each region through previously completed projects;

  • Compare historical project costs with new costs to justify variances;

  • Apply estimating expertise and tools to justify change orders, single source bids and unplanned work;

  • Evaluate costs to negotiate the true value of additional work during the course of the job (change notices, amendments, claims, etc.);

  • Provide interactive estimating support to project managers;

  • Prepare schedules;

  • Write texts related to estimating in various project reports;

  • Present estimation and planning results to the customer;

  • Analyze bid results; Supervise technicians and engineers;

  • Provide training and support to project managers in their estimating efforts;

  • Provide support during construction and occasional site visits;

  • Ensure adherence to budgets and deadlines for estimating projects; Participate in service bids.

Qualifications

Qualifications required:

  • College training in building estimating or assessment or any training related to the engineering or construction field;

  • At least 8 years in civil engineering project estimating;

  • Ability to coordinate a team of technicians to meet technical quality, schedule and budget objectives;

  • Experience on construction sites or in-depth knowledge of construction and work execution;

  • Knowledge of construction codes and standards;

  • In-depth knowledge of estimating software and tools;

  • Proficiency in Excel, MS Project and AutoCad;

  • Ability to write study reports and technical specifications;

  • Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken;

Desirable qualifications:

  • At least 15 years in civil engineering project estimating;

  • Experience in Execution Management - Supports operational objectives and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration;

  • Teamwork skills - Collaborates effectively within the team to achieve goals, identify issues and improve organizational effectiveness;

  • Ability to collaborate in building and maintaining a strong team, contributing to a culture of excellence;

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is 91 500,00 $ - 150 000,00 $.
