Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Director, Business Development to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.

The Director, Business Development is an industry leader who drives new business and continuously improves relationships with existing clients. Establishes and implements business development and sales policies; and identifies, develops and organizes new business opportunities in the global marketplace. Accountable to work with Operations leaders to determine client long-range needs for services and/or capital expenditures and solicits qualified bid/proposal opportunities. This role sets the strategy for business development ensuring alignment with the greater organizations vision and objectives.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for leading Business Acquisition with new customers and supporting Retention & Value Growth with current contracts

  • Execute bidding and proposal process to high standard and participate in contract negotiations and start of transition activities

  • Liaise with Operations and Functional leaders to ensure there is a combined execution plan for new business and developing current contracts

  • Organize and ensure upkeep and compliance of all BD processes, databases and reports

  • Research business and market opportunities (business analysis) as directed by VP, Operations,

  • Networking supportive of BD process (conferences, networking luncheons, industry organizations)

  • Manage the BD team and ensure KPIs are in place to measure performance and motivate and engage the team,

  • Develop bid strategy in liaison with Operations

  • Create a corporate library of information that streamlines and speeds up the bidding process

  • Ensure that the commercials are market competitive and executed to high standard

  • Document the bidding process and ensure that corporate risk assessments are followed; developing any additional assessments as required

  • Present on behalf of the Company as directed by the needs of the BD strategy

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, marketing, economics, engineering science, management science, applied sciences or a closely related field or equivalent.

  • This is an administrative level position with extensive experience in planning management.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of senior sales/marketing experience and account management experience

  • Robust knowledge of the oilfield services, industrial maintenance and/or construction industries; significant experience in Oil and Gas or related industry preferred

  • Successful track record leading a team of Account Managers and BD Managers

  • Extensive background with large value proposals and tenders

  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions with good financial acumen

  • High level communication skills, both written and verbal; particularly the ability to engage senior management of potential and current customer organizations

  • Excellent contract review skills and negotiation skills

  • Must be a proven manager with strong results orientation, positive “can do” attitude and sense of urgency to get things done

  • Strong strategic focus and deep understanding of business development and the interplay between contracts, operations and commercial outcomes

  • Well-developed presentation skills

  • Strong leadership and management skills
