Job Summary

This is a great opportunity for a Traffic Engineer with transportation planning experience who is seeking a role that can provide the opportunity to expand their experience and responsibility combined with exposure to a wide variety of traffic and transportation engineering/planning projects across the greater Vancouver area in Canada as well as western Canada, and around the globe.

As part of our transportation team, the appropriately qualified applicant will provide clients with traffic engineering and transportation planning services.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Traffic Impact Assessments/Studies; Traffic Management Strategies and Plans, Traffic Control Plan

  • Transit planning-ridership studies; transportation study peer reviews

  • Transit planning, operations and priority assessments

  • Cycle / pedestrian facilities planning/assessments

  • Identifying project opportunities, preparing proposals, including developing the methodology/approach for undertaking projects, as well as associated work plans, schedules and budgets

  • Prepare documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications and meeting minutes

  • Assume Discipline Lead, Deputy Project Manager and Project Manager roles as necessary

  • Drafting reports, presentations and other client deliverables

  • Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards

  • Liaise with and assist other departments and offices in the provision of traffic engineering services to clients

  • Undertake research, surveys and interviews as part of project or client development work

  • Support the Manager of Road and Traffic in the expansion of the Traffic Engineering practice in BC

  • Other business development responsibilities and duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or greater with an strong emphasis on transportation planning

  • 10+ years of experience

  • Professional Engineer, or equivalent status, registered (or registrable) in BC

  • Extensive experience in Traffic Engineering activities

  • Strong technical and analytical skills

  • Knowledge of traffic engineering simulation software (Synchro/ SimTraffic v7 or greater and/or VISSIM v5 or greater)

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Strong verbal communicator, including presentation, facilitation and listening skills

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience in a professional consulting environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s in Civil Engineering or greater with an strong emphasis on transportation planning and engineering with economics

  • PTOE or similar designation

  • Experience in transportation and infrastructure economics, including traffic and revenue forecasting

  • Familiarity with public finance issues related to municipalities and provinces in Canada

  • Experience undertaking micro-econometric studies with large data sets

  • Familiarity with urban planning and related policy issues

  • Experience in Traffic signal/control systems

  • TDM / ITS

  • 4 Stage modeling methods and travel demand, (EMME v2 or greater, TransCAD, Cube, etc.) and Traffic operational software packages such as PARAMICS, AIMSUN, SINDRA, ARCADY

  • Other software that are tools could include Arc view GIS, Graphics design packages, AutoCAD etc
