Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to lead the BC Transportation group. Reporting to the Director of Operations for Transportation in Western and Central Canada , this role will be based at our AECOM office in Burnaby. AECOM provides professional planning, design, and construction administration services in the areas of Highway/Bridge, Ports, Rail, and Transportation Facilities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead the development and expansion of AECOM's transportation team/business in BC while collaborating effectively with other provincial Operations Managers and Growth Leaders across Western and Central Canada, including Market Sector Leaders, Practice Leaders, and Client Account Managers to develop future strategies and participate in key sector and corporate initiatives.
Lead the acquisition, professional development, engagement, and retention of employees within the BC Transportation group.
Assign employees to projects directly or through subordinates, ensuring that all technical work is completed in accordance with project scope, budget, and AECOM's quality and professional standards.
Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and sound judgment in addressing project delivery challenges, technical and client-related issues, and the development of technical objectives and requirements.
Act as an advisor to clients and other AECOM business lines on technical and business-related matters.
Stay current with industry standards, implementing best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Actively engage with professional associations, championing the advancement of the profession.
Manage client relationships, ensuring that project delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
Work with the Western Canada Growth Lead to define and refine the future growth direction of the BC Transportation group, ensuring alignment with AECOM’s strategic growth objectives.
Lead efforts to grow the group’s business base and revenue, building a strong and successful team of professionals.
Provide hands-on technical leadership and guidance through the execution and successful completion of client assignments.
Foster a culture of inclusion by mentoring the BC Transportation team, ensuring that staff are equipped with the latest technical knowledge to deliver client-focused solutions.
Embed AECOM’s Sustainable Legacies, Safety, and Ethics & Compliance programs into the team culture.
Strengthen the market leadership position of the Transportation group across Western Canada.
Work closely with other business lines within Western Canada to promote the growth and sustainability of AECOM’s operations.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
10+ years of relevant experience in transportation engineering.
2+ years leadership experience
Professional Engineering License.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ideally 15+ years experience in transportation engineering
Significant experience in people management and leadership.
Experience in bidding large projects (>$10 million fee or $200M CapEx).
Experience working with Translink and the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT).
Proven ability to grow and manage an engineering team.
Extensive project management experience, including responsibility for financial, quality, and schedule management of large and small engineering projects.
Strong understanding of transportation engineering principles, contract law, and construction techniques.
Team-oriented, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and take ownership of assigned work.
Commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture in the workplace.
Strategic, analytical, and practical problem-solving skills.
Exceptional technical writing and proposal preparation skills.
Effective verbal communication skills, with the ability to make presentations and engage stakeholders at all levels.
Solid technical expertise in transportation engineering disciplines such as roads, ports, transit, or rail, ideally with consulting engineering experience.
Exceptional client service and relationship-building abilities.
An energetic coach and mentor, driven by the challenge of working on diverse and complex projects while developing talent.
Strong leadership presence, capable of becoming a trusted advisor and advocate for AECOM’s core values, earning client confidence.
Knowledge of Ports, and Airports would be an asset.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $150,000.00 - $250,000.00.
