Job Summary

Due to growth in demand for our corporate sustainability and ESG services – strategy development, risk management, and corporate disclosures – we are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic, established individual to join our UK-based Climate Change, Sustainability and Resilience (CCSR) practice. Location is flexible across our UK offices.

Our CCSR practice has a well-deserved reputation with clients for Net Zero and ESG research, peer benchmarking, risk assessment, strategy development, and reporting.

Our work provides clients with greater confidence in decision making, business planning and operation of individual assets and multinational portfolios. We also work with clients to integrate ESG factors and risk management into operational activities and commercial planning processes including transactions. The CCSR practice works across a wide range of sectors, including industrials, manufacturing, FMCG, chems/pharmas, and financial services.

The successful candidate will manage project teams to deliver a range of ESG, climate change and sustainability projects primarily for multi-national firms and will support the senior leaders in the practice and in AECOM’s wider Environment & Sustainability Business Unit to grow in this service area.

A typical week could involve:

  • Conducting and delivering technical work across a range of CCSR projects, including Net Zero;

  • Leading project/task teams to deliver climate change, sustainability and ESG related projects;

  • Managing tasks and projects covering technical, quality and financial management;

  • Supporting and mentoring team members to build their capacity and expertise;

  • Liaising and collaborating with colleagues, clients and their advisors to deliver work on time, budget and achieving technical excellence;

  • Multitasking: working across several projects and proposals, including those around ESG and climate risk assessment, and sustainability, ESG and Net Zero strategy;

  • Preparing costed proposals and other business development materials;

  • Building positive long-term client relationships; and

  • Supporting the CCSR practice leadership to identify and secure new opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with the following:

  • Strong experience in ESG and sustainability strategy, and climate risk assessment.

  • Experience with carbon accounting (Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions) and reporting (across a range of protocols and regulatory regimes);

  • A demonstrated understating of ESG and sustainability reporting and disclosure standards; for example, TCFD, CDP, WRI, SASB, GRI etc.;

  • Demonstrated experience in advising on, and integrating, ESG risk management into operational activities and commercial planning;

  • Holistic understanding of sustainability and Net Zero, with a particular interest in ESG and climate risk assessment and management;

  • A desire to deliver technical excellence;

  • Project and financial management experience;

  • Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation;

  • Great communication skills in English; fluency in other languages an advantage;

  • Solid numeracy skills, confidence in working with large data sets;

  • Problem solving abilities. Self-starter, who can design and deliver work under own initiative.

  • Ideally, you will have previous experience with a consultancy firm, although applications from candidates with industry/corporate backgrounds are also welcome.

Preferred Qualifications

  • STEM based BSc, or equivalent professional experience, Sustainability/carbon/ESG or similar MSc desirable

  • Professional accreditation e.g. Chartered Environmentalist
