AECOM Bridge Engineer in Bristol, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Despite the current pandemic situation our Bridges and Structures sector continues to expand. Our team in Bristol can offer you a diverse portfolio of works, with a mix of local, national, and international bridges and structures projects in both rail and road including numerous long-term frameworks. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the design, assessment, inspection, repair/remediation, construction support, and management services on a wide range of transport infrastructure projects.

Some of the responsibilities in this role:

  • Prepare detailed design documents including F001, F002 & F003 for Network Rail schemes

  • Prepare detailed design calculations to Eurocode and British Standards for repairs and new build schemes

  • Prepare assessment reports and calculations to DMRB and Network Rail standards for bridge assessments

  • Participate and lead inspection/examination works for assessments and repair scoping surveys

  • Prepare Work Package Plans / SH&E plans in preparation for site works

  • Support Project Managers in the delivery and commercial control of projects including client reporting, programming, resource planning and commercial monitoring

  • Undertake calculation checking for works within areas of experience

  • Support more junior Graduates and Undergraduates in the preparation of documents

A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

CORMAC – strategic delivery partner providing numerous transportation services including bridges to Cornwall County Council on behalf of CORMAC.

Network Rail Design Services Framework (DSF) – undertake remediation works to Network Rail’s structural assets includes scoping reports, options reports, investigation findings reports and remedial strengthening and/or repairs through F001 to F003.

West of England Combined AuthorityWECA) – providing TAA support, design and asset management services to the four local authorities that make up WECA including Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council, Bath & North-East Somerset Council and North Somerset Council.

Civils Assessment Framework Agreement (CAFA) – AECOM appointed across five routes for the CAFA framework contracts.

South Wales Trunk Road Agent (SWTRA)– AECOM are engaged to provide engineering support services within the ‘Central’ section.

Minimum Requirements

You should have a good blend of the following:

  • Ability to deliver engineering tasks to expected quality, time and budget

  • Experience in the delivery of rail/road sector projects for bridges and property end clients

  • Experience in the preparation of report authoring including inspection reports and assessment reports

  • Working knowledge of H&S procedures

  • Intermediate ability in various software packages ideally including LUSAS and MIDAS with experience in Finite Element Analysis preferred

  • Working knowledge and experience of the following: Eurocode, British, Highways England and Rail Standards

  • You will have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Working knowledge of bridge assessment standards, bridge repair & refurbishment would be an advantage

  • Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent

  • Working towards IEng or CEng MICE status with a natural drive to achieve

  • Ideally certified to PTS and CSCS, other competencies including COSS, PASMA, IPAF etc would be an advantage.
