Job Summary

Our Birmingham office is currently seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation team. The role would suit a proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. This position would ideally suit someone with a transport planning or traffic modelling background.

AECOM’s Birmingham Traffic team has an established track record of successfully delivering major schemes to clients across the region, nationally and internationally. Our local Clients include Highways England, HS2, Transport for the West Midlands and all of the West Midlands Local Authorities.

The team provides development control and spatial planning advice as well as concept, preliminary and detailed design and traffic modelling services on a wide range of projects, also supporting the wider AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface.

We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload. Our position on a number of significant regional and national Transportation Frameworks provides the team with excellent opportunities across the local government / public sector market ensuring an exciting future and varied workload.

Job responsibilities:

The appropriate level of expertise is required in order that the following responsibilities can be carried out to the necessary standards:

  • Developing responses to Client briefs

  • Input into wider team project resourcing

  • Receive project brief and input into project planning, programming and delivery

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.

  • Act as a Deputy/Project Manager (once accredited) as necessary including costing, programming and monitoring of financial performance.

  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief and AECOM’s quality procedures.

  • Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget.

  • Attend internal and external Project Progress meetings and represent the Client at planning/project meetings.

  • Prepare detailed client briefs, fee proposals, technical responses and study reports for Manager approval and contribute to major bids

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience of leading on a range of traffic engineering design projects and studies.

  • Excellent technical and communication skills.

  • Demonstrable experience in highway/traffic engineering through concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design stages

  • Experience in preliminary and detailed design activities including demonstrable ability using CAD, MX, Civil 3d

  • Understanding and application of Health and Safety policies, procedures and requirements

  • Awareness of all relevant statutory legislation applicable to the services being delivered

  • Demonstrable application of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD and the Traffic Signs Manuals.

  • Reasonable geographical flexibility (within the UK) to support project and business requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • You will have or be working towards a relevant degree, or equivalent, and will be working towards an appropriate professional status with membership of a relevant professional institution.
