AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Fire Engineer for our Birmingham office. This consultancy role requires demonstrable experience across various sectors and technical fire engineering applications in a client-focused environment.

In this position, you will collaborate with our UK-based fire team to deliver both local and international projects. Additionally, you will oversee a graduate in the Birmingham office, providing appropriate guidance and mentoring with support from senior staff. The role demands developmental experience in a professional setting.

This opportunity is ideal for an established consultant ready to advance their career or for someone eager to enhance their knowledge and design expertise within a well-respected and established fire safety consultancy.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Being able to deliver from inception through to completion, with minimal senior oversight, CFD modelling, evacuation modelling and other forms of analytical fire engineering ensuring compliance with the local (UK standards) and international codes (i.e. UAE Fire and Life Safety Code, Saudi Building Code, NFPA 101 & 5000, and International Building Code (IBC)).

  • Managing design projects and preparing fire strategies for various sectors within the UK, KSA, UAE and other middle east countries. Demonstrable experience in a range of sectors and technical fire engineering applications – with a particular focus on UK regulations and international codes.

  • Developing approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Participating in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.

  • Participating in the development of accurate cost estimates for technical efforts for projects.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Relevant fire engineering degree or professional qualification.

  • Work experience within a similar consultancy or other relevant business within the UK or any other Middle Eastern country.

  • Demonstrable experience in various sectors and technical fire engineering applications – with a particular focus on local and international codes and markets.

  • Demonstrable experience managing the fire engineering aspect of small to medium-sized design projects within agreed timescales and budgets.

  • Experience preparing fee proposals and task variations for fire engineering activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc in Fire Engineering or similar.

  • Professional membership with the Institution of Fire Engineers or Engineering Council and progressing to chartership.

  • Demonstrable experience in leading and actively supervising a team of more junior engineers with regard to people and projects.

  • A clear work history and proof of professional development and learning.
