AECOM has an immediate opening for an experienced power system studies engineer to join our team of highly qualified engineers and consultants at our Manchester offices but other locations will also be considered.

In this position, you will be a lead of electrical modelling and studies delivery. You will perform a wide range of power system studies and modelling in the areas of power flow, short circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transients simulation for transmission, distribution and industrial networks. You will also mentor the junior engineer to enable them to perform the system studies task. You will be involved renewable projects such as wind farms, solar farms and industrial projects such as an offshore/onshore networks for process industries or data centres around the globe.
You will be responsible for full life cycle of system studies projects. Typical responsibilities will include, but not limited to, scoping the work for competitive proposals, performing power system studies using RMS and EMT softwares, reviewing and preparing comprehensive study reports and taking part in meeting with clients/stakeholders to discuss or propose findings/solutions.
Strong understanding of power system control, stability and operational aspects within renewable generation and other power electronics technologies such as battery storage
Solid and specific work experience in the power system studies area
Experience in static, dynamic and power quality modelling and studies
Professional use of computer tools for EMT and RMS such as PSS/E, DiGSILENT, PSCAD, EMTP-RV, ATP/EMTP, ETAP etc
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively explain and discuss findings/solutions with customers
Self-motivated and able to collaborate with a group of technical and non-technical clients
Verbal and written communication skills in English.
Technical expert in power system studies with RMS and EMT software tools
Experience of leading a small team of studies engineers
Good command in automation tools such as python
Willing to learn and explore the unknown in relation to power systems with open mindset
Power electronic converters applied to non-conventional power generation systems
Able to understand and interpret electricity Rules and Codes from different countries in correct manner
Proactive with a good market understanding
Understanding of project management and commercials related to power system studies
Experience in in MATLAB/Simulink
Experience in model development
Experienced in project execution in a matrix organization
Experience in Reliability, Availability and Maintainability of the transmission and distribution systems and use of RAM software
Experience in control interaction type studies
- Bachelor’s/ Masters/ or PhD in Electrical Engineering with interest in power systems.
