At AECOM we are looking for a CAD Technician to work with our Midlands and South-West engineering teams based in Birmingham and Bristol. We are looking for enthusiastic, capable candidates with experience in 2D and 3D design using AutoCAD and Civils 3D.

The team has an established track record of successfully delivering high profile development and infrastructure schemes and has a truly multi-disciplinary capability. The multi-disciplinary nature of the Development Infrastructure team means that we lead on a variety of projects from inception (due diligence, master planning support and scheme viability - including drainage, flooding, utilities and highways), through to detailed design, value engineering, design delivery, project management, execution and handover.

Job Duties:

As a CAD/BIM Technician you will have the following daily responsibilities:

  • Production of Civil drawings for civil infrastructure schemes.

  • Production of 2D and 3D design models using industry standard modelling applications using Autodesk (Civil 3D, Infraworks etc).

  • Taking instructions from Engineers and producing drawings with limited supervision or direction.

  • Keeping project folders updated and organised to AECOM BIM Standards.

  • You will assist in the preparation of planning, tender and construction documents for a range of Site Development projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience working as a CAD Technician within a Civils team.

  • Ability to produce all 2D and 3D design information required in Civil 3D including underground utilities and drainage.

  • Experienced and proficient with AutoCAD suites.

  • Experience and knowledge of Revit is preferable but not necessary.

  • A strong understanding of highway design principles together with experience in applying relevant technical guidance to produce design drawings to a high standard;

  • Development of alignment designs for new highways and junction improvements in Civil3D / AutoCAD environment, together with use of Vehicle Tracking software;

  • The ideal candidate will also have a good understanding of development drainage design and experience of using Microdrainage.

  • Preparation of Planning Application Packages and Technical Approval submissions.

  • Knowledge of ISO 19650-2 BIM Standards and experience in working on BIM projects in accordance with PAS 1192-2:2016, BS 1192:2007 and BS 1192-4:2014 standards.

  • Demonstrating an understanding of Health and Safety, including Safety in Design requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Higher National Certificate (HNC) / Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.

  • EngTech qualified.

  • Ideally, you’ll be working towards IEng or equivalent.
