AECOM Associate Research Analyst in Birmingham, United Kingdom

Job Summary

AECOM’s Cost Research team provides consistent, current, high-value market intelligence to the UK construction industry and strategic international markets, maintaining AECOM as the leading voice in the construction industry and delivering accurate and up-to-date market advice on capital projects.

Due to continued growth, the team is looking for an expert construction analyst to lead a number of the team’s outputs and work side-by-side with AECOM’s Cost Intelligence team to help find innovative solutions to client problems in a range of sectors across the UK.

Job Responsibilities

The principal activities associated with the role include:

  • Using your deep understanding of construction techniques and the broad operating environment in major sectors of the UK construction industry to help form AECOM’s view on key market variables, including construction inflation, contractor’s on-costs and other industry benchmarks

  • Capture and consolidation of project cost information and market intelligence from across the UK, including indexation of priced commercial documents;

  • Developing & utilising relationships with supply chain members and utilising relevant data to improve market intelligence

  • Collaborating with market-facing sector teams to optimise the production of project benchmarking and cost models, encouraging consistency and sharing of innovation across sectors

  • Managing the analysis and compilation of the SPONS range of industry price books

  • Publishing market intelligence internally and externally

  • Analysing industry workload, construction prices and broader industry sources such as ONS to monitor and report on commodity price movements, labour cost trends and other market factors

  • Provision of project and consultancy advice related to the construction sector, including procurement, risk and business operations for example

Minimum Requirements

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of:

  • construction techniques, process and industry cost and carbon drivers

  • construction materials and techniques

  • contracts and contract management

  • construction procurement

  • construction commercial management

Demonstrable capability for:

  • logical, systematic and auditable analysis, research and output delivery

  • clear and accurate written communication

  • report writing for construction industry professionals

Ability to manage multiple workstreams and respond to changing demands

Proactive and driven approach to work, success creation and achieving deadlines

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and confidence to work with a wide range of stakeholders

Awareness and understanding of the global, regional and local factors influencing construction delivery

Competency in Microsoft Office applications
