To meet our growing business needs we are looking for a Senior Coastal Modeller to join our Water Ports and Power team in Basingstoke. As Senior Coastal Modeller, you will be experienced in a range of Coastal, Ports or Water projects, with demonstrable technical capabilities. You will also feel confident in the supervision of others and working independently where required.
You will be working on high profile Coastal and Ports projects and therefore, we would like you to be highly experienced in undertaking the following:
Numerical modelling of tides, wave and sediment transport processes;
Marine survey specification;
Metocean data analysis; and
Coastal flood studies.
In addition to the above, experience of environmental impact assessments and water quality modelling would be an advantage. In joining the growing Water Ports and Power team in the Basingstoke office, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with UK Water teams and other business lines on major multi-disciplinary projects. This will also include providing support with business development initiatives, input to bids, maintaining and developing strong internal and external client relationships.
Our modern office in Basingstoke has good transport links and accommodates teams from a range of disciplines who you will work closely with. The office has an active sports and social club and undertakes a range of environmental and community support initiatives.
Undertake modelling studies for a range of projects supporting feasibility/option appraisal to detailed design.
Work closely and interface with other disciplines in the delivery of modelling studies.
Provide clear and consistent guidance for work carried out by junior modellers.
Manage parts of a project and hence ensure delivery of tasks to agreed budget, programme and quality.
Manage financial aspect of assigned project tasks.
Support the preparation of project budget & programme.
Liaison, as appropriate, with clients, government authorities, contractors and suppliers.
Mentor junior modelling staff and potentially have line manager responsibilities.
You will have experience of three, or more, of the following;
Hydrodynamic / Wave model development and application using MIKE by DHI and/or Delft3D software;
Metocean data analysis using MATLAB;
Near-field mixing studies using CORMIX;
Joint probability methods (using EA/Defra guidance);
Overtopping assessments (using the EurOtop Manual);
Beach design (using XBeach, Shingle-B);
Modeling Report writing
You will understand the importance of project delivery to budget and schedule and manage work effectively to achieve set targets.
Can demonstrate good exposure to clients and key stakeholders including private clients, Environment Agency and Local Authorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential in this role and will be used to develop and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and external clients where required.
Demonstrate sound problem solving skills, accountability for assigned work, and solid written and communication skills.
You will understand the importance of Health and Safety and contribute to our positive health and safety culture.
Hands on experience using project planning packages like Microsoft Project would be an advantage.
Chartered or close to achieving chartership with an appropriate institution (i.e. IMarEST or CIWEM);
Masters degree in relevant subject such as civil/coastal engineering, marine science/oceanography or similar.
Experience in project management would be an advantage.
Previous work winning and proposal writing experience would be an advantage.
