AECOM Principal Health and Safety Consultant in Basingstoke, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We are looking for experienced and motivated Health and Safety Consultants to join our team in in the following locations to work on a wide variety of projects and frameworks, primarily in the role of Principal Designer/ CDM Advisor.

The role will require sound knowledge of the CDM Regulations. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake the following on a range of projects :

  • Develop sound working relationships with the design teams and client

  • Undertake and lead CDM review workshops with multi-disciplinary design teams, Principal Contractors and clients, challenging both permanent and temporary works designers with respect to health and safety

  • Develop the preconstruction information and advise the client on gaps on this information

  • Liaison with the Principal Contractor in order that the Construction Phase Plan is suitably developed

  • Advising and supporting the client on discharging their duties

  • Development of the Health and Safety File

In addition to this we are looking for an individual to to drive quality and diversity of our service offering, provide support in the management of existing clients, internal commercial focussed management and to work with the Directors in raising the profile of AECOM Health and Safety Consulting across the UK and growing the service line. You will be joining a team of like-minded experts that have a passion for safety and health to deliver delivered proportionate risk solutions for our clients.

Job Responsibilities:

You will need to be from a consultancy or client organisation with the ability to:

  • Managing the role of Principal Designer / CDM Adviser under the CDM Regulations.

  • Manage and ensure the delivery of Health and Safety Consulting team outputs, in accordance with agreed timescales and quality standards.

  • Develop strong reciprocal relationships with clients and members of the project team.

  • Providing wider Health & Safety consultancy services to clients.

  • Preparation of fee proposals – attendance at Client presentations if required.

  • Be a primary interface with AECOM clients (new and existing).

  • Provide full Health & Safety consultancy duties to AECOM clients including our internal market.

Our team is growing to support our work in all sectors and so we are looking for highly skilled and motivated safety professionals to support this exciting phase of our growth.

Our approach to all projects requires a high degree of flexibility and creativity, excellent presentational skills and an ability to communicate effectively with clients and consultants. The successful candidate shall be charged with the delivery of Health & Safety Services within our Client focused and highly motivated professional team

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years proven experience in a consulting or client / contractor environment providing the full spectrum of Health and Safety services particularly CDM bias services such as Principal Designer and CDM Client Advisor, inspection and auditing, safety management system development and implementation etc.

  • Proven ability to lead projects from the front and advise clients and design teams on safety and health related matters and being a pivotal member of a project team.

  • Passionate about delivering high quality consulting services to our clients.

  • Experience in design delivery stages and construction processes

  • Excellent IT Skills and the ability to utilise typical office based software but with vision to develop new ways of presenting data.

  • Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to challenge in a positive and engaging manner.

  • Understanding of a variety of project types/sizes/sectors within our active sectors in the UK – eg . Commercial Offices, Infrastructure, Residential, Mixed Use, Education and Healthcare.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified (Engineering/Architecture related preferred)

  • Professionally Qualified – ideally Chartered or Graduate status with the IOSH.

  • Membership of Association for Project Safety
