Job Description

This position requires leading track designs by example primarily in the UK and will need a combination of hands-on track design, design checking, mentoring and training other team members. Primary KPI is to increase repeat work from UK through sustained high-quality deliverables.

• Lead in the production of track designs and provision of technical support throughout to support all stages of the design process (Feasibility through to Construction) in both Plain Line and S&C, especially in the UK.

• Independently deliver / manage the production of design deliverables in accordance with client requirements (i.e. Form A, Form B and For Construction submissions)

• Acts as a Senior technical resource and serve as technical advisor and/or mentor for lesser experienced team members.

• Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

• Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.

• Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

• Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

• Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component.

• Performs quality control review of design calculations, Models or drawings.

• Prepares technical specification sections.

• Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

• Agility in the face of dynamic project stages. This position may also be leading similar designs in other global regions if required.

Qualifications

• Master of Engineering degree or Bachelor degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

• Chartered Engineer (CEng), or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent in the relevant field from any global organization (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers, UK) or working towards.

• 12+ Years of Track Design experience with substantial experience in UK Projects, especially Network Rail renewals in all stages PACE 1 to 5.

• Prior or current experience and expertise in Gauging software with Clearroute 2 mandatory. Clearroute License preferred.

• Proficiency in Power Rail Track, Microstation mandatory. Open Rail Designer preferred.

• Extensive experience and Technical Proficiency in Plain Line and UK Switches & Crossings mandatory.

• Plain Line Stressing Design experience mandatory. S&C stressing Design – preferred.

• Solid understanding of UK Track Design including interpretation of Standards and application of risk assessment, HSE and CDM regulations.

• Solid understanding of track construction methods, stageworks of projects, Permanent Way components and surveys in the United Kingdom.

• Demonstrated ability to author technical reports.

• Demonstrated ability to present their work and represent their colleagues on the project in presentations and meetings.

• Technical quality of deliverables – undertaking checks of design deliverables completed by team members in accordance with company procedures.

• Timely delivery in accordance with design programmes.

• Experience of Attendance at technical design reviews including Design and Construction Interface meetings and Interdisciplinary Design Checks to present the Track design.

• Keep up to date with industry best practices and where appropriate apply best practices within the project team environment.
