Job Summary

The Program Management/Construction Management (PM/CM) business line specializes in the management of design and construction of community infrastructure facilities for education, healthcare, national governments, sports and leisure, justice, cultural venues, and commercial needs. AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment Engineer for upcoming projects in the Bakersfield, CA area. The FF&E engineer will be responsible for the coordination and management of the selection, delivery, install, and warranty work for all FF&E items as they relate to the projects proposed under the Bakersfield College Master Plan.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Build a knowledge base of the school district’s facility master plans and projects

  • Perform needs analysis and audit of existing furniture at campus buildings included in Master Plan scope

  • Maintain proposed project budgets for Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment in coordination with Project Manager

  • Identify FF&E needs per department; prepare specification sheets and preliminary costs at the direction of the Project Manager

  • Develop FF&E project schedules, monitor progress and complete projects on schedule

  • Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate

  • Coordinate with Campus Project Manager, Campus Maintenance & Operations (M&O), and General Contractor to ensure timely bid, purchase, fabrication, delivery, and installation in relation to actual construction progress and scheduled

  • Develop and interpret specifications, scopes of work, and contracts where applicable

  • Manage third party design teams to complete furniture planning. If a third party designer has not been retained, FF&E engineer will be responsible for working with user groups to space plan and specify interior spaces as necessary, and coordinate any infrastructure items with the construction team

  • Manage furniture vendor schedules, planning, and quoting process

  • Ensure completed tasks meet cost, quality, and schedule objectives

  • Work in conjunction with the Project Manager to oversee and coordinate the work of suppliers, contractors, and consultants working on FF&E project tasks

  • Prepare budget and expenditure reports

  • Produce status reports to direct project participants

  • Manage procurement process with all vendors and project team to meet schedules and budgets for all projects

  • Resolve or assist in the resolutions of conflicts within and between projects or timelines; develop methods to monitor project or area progress; provide corrective supervision if necessary

  • Maintain quality of standards of performance, functionality, and cost by effectively applying established company methodology and enforcing project standards

  • Effectively communicate and update superiors on project progress

  • Hold regular status meetings with project team

  • Ensure the development, maintenance, and storage of high quality project documentation including contracts, change orders, specifications, budgets, expenditure records, schedules, correspondence, transmittals, memos, reports, and other project files

  • Manage warranty work; Arrange for the repair or replacement of any damaged or defective items following installation. Acceptance is at the District’s discretion

  • Perform Pre-punch and post-punch walks required for sign off. All issues must be reported to the Project Manager immediately

  • Provide as-built installation plans (if required by District)

  • Develop project planning and delivery schedules

  • Able to motivate administrative support staff and delegate effectively

Minimum Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience working on major commercial design or construction projects

  • Previous experience handling FF&E project management on K-12 or university level educational projects

  • Strong organizational skills – ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to complete tasks within required timeframe with little or no supervision

  • Proficient use of computer programs including Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Project, P6 or other scheduling programs, Visio, AutoCad, and Revit

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications

  • Current authorization to work in the US

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related field of study

  • Must be detail oriented, thorough, well organized and effectively manage time

  • Knowledge of Public Procurement Practices, ADA Regulations and Building Codes

  • Experience working for school furniture vendors and/or distributors
