Job Description
The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Environmental Planner for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential.
This Senior Environmental Planner position will support the multi-discipline environmental group in Transportation. This candidate will perform tasks ranging from environmental project management, leading project teams, research/report writing, and data collection and compilation among other duties.
This is a remote work option position.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
This position will support the environmental transportation practice. Primary responsibilities are to apply expert knowledge of the GDOT environmental process and milestone schedule management for the GDOT Plan Development Process and environmental documentation. Applies expert knowledge throughout project timeline, focusing on GDOT projects, to understand how the engineering, agency, and public involvement activities integrates with the environmental process. This position would serve either as or support for the environmental lead, environmental deputy program/project manager on GDOT projects in a role focusing on preparation of environmental documentation for project delivery. This position would lead and support client and agency consultation
Scheduling- aligns project deliverables with engineering and project delivery milestones; recommends priorities, schedules and funding sources to implement public improvements plan. Prepares and manages schedules for multiple GDOT delivery mechanisms
Responsible for the assessment of environmental indicators which are incorporated into studies, environmental assessments, and statements that will generally be used to identify, abate, and eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards that affect people, wildlife, and environments; and to propose mitigation measures for the environmental impacts of newly built development or infrastructure
Works in program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, NEPA, community development, public outreach, hazard mitigation, noise, and others. Prepares basic data and scientific documents to include figures, technical reports, agency coordination, NEPA/GEPA documents, and supports 404/buffer variance permit applications for authorization by state and federal agencies. Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues, and public involvement
Preparation and QAQC of environmental deliverables associated with transportation projects (including schedule management requiring interdisciplinary team coordination and ensuring schedules are updated based on changing client and/or regulatory needs) and guiding clients in the permitting and environmental management process to obtain environmental clearances
QAQC for environmental documents for transportation projects (NEPA and GEPA and supporting materials). Originates and performs technical approach, quality control, data assessments, report reviews and conducts thorough QA/QC for work prepared by others
Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports of investigations; compiles, organizes, and interprets data collected by others to provide data-based recommendations for senior management and clients
Develops plans, studies and analyses. Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews and long project timelines, building and executing schedules to meet multiple concurrent timelines
Applies lessons learned from projects to tailored needs on other projects. Advises team members on best practices, consistency in approach, and consequences of decisionmaking
Program management support, including project management experience, managing multiple aspects of projects and tasks as well as budgets and staffing, and schedules. Includes application of team building practices
Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to public, agencies, clients, and stakeholders. Prepares and distributes meeting minutes
Works under supervision of management but is capable and expected to work independently to complete all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision
Serves as a technical specialist for the office in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles or processes for an assigned area of responsibility (i.e., subject matter, function, type of facility or industry).
Responsible for environmental permits and evaluating resource delineations.
May distinguish differences in environmental class of action and provide material client support in the development of options and appropriate project alternatives
Assist management with business development activities and mentorship of staff
Qualifications
Minimum:
BA/BS Planning, Environmental, or related field and eight years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Experience with Georgia Departments of Transportation and Georgia state and federal agencies that review environmental documents including 3 years working with GDOT and state and federal agencies tasked with regulatory requirements for transportation projects in Georgia
Demonstrated experience in environmental delivery for complex transportation projects
Experience working with Georgia state agencies and federal agencies to navigate permitting/regulatory requirements to obtain agency environmental clearances and to determine agency jurisdictionality of natural and cultural resources
Proficiency and experience in technical/scientific writing skills
Experience in synthesizing relevant data from reports into NEPA documents or permit applications
Preferred:
Proficiency and knowledge of GIS
Experience working in fast-paced dynamic environment with multiple projects, deliverables, schedules and timelines with demonstrated ability to manage time and priorities under limited supervision
Demonstrated leadership experience of interdisciplinary teams to meet deadlines and ensure project delivery
Client and customer service oriented and demonstrated client-facing experience.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $135,000.00.
