Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Manager, Field Services Unit for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office with the project site located at 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The following duties are representative of the range of duties performed under this job classification. Individual employees may only perform a subset of the duties listed. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive:

  • Provides management oversight for the Field Services Team; leads and participates in complex technical problem resolution and communicates with the Director and senior management to resolve issues and seek solutions;

  • Develops and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures relative to the maintenance and operation with assigned functions; assists in developing and implementing the Public Works Department business plan, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures

  • Prepares projections for the Field Services Division’s budget; submits the budget recommendation, and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget

  • Directs, oversees, and participates in the development of the work plan, assign work activities, projects, and programs, monitors workflow, reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures

  • Monitors follow-up and responses to citizen complaints, City Management and City Council Member requests; ensures service requests are prioritized based on importance and ensures appropriate follow-up communication

  • Monitors development related to Field Services on-going work activities and special projects; evaluates their impact and implements policy and procedure improvements;

  • Manages the City’s contract for all field services; ensures contract meets performance standards; prepares necessary contract bid summary, analyzes bids, and makes recommendations to the Director;

  • Provides leadership and works with staff to develop and retain highly competent, customer service-oriented staff through training, role modeling, and day-to-day management practices that support the project’s mission and values;

  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations; conducts research and maintains an awareness of new issues, methods, equipment, trends, and advances in the profession; attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate;

  • Attends meetings, serves on committees, and makes presentations as needed; participates on review committees, policy committees, safety committees, ad hoc committees, and represents the department at community events;

  • Researches and prepares technical briefings, reports, and correspondence;

  • Monitors inventory levels of supplies; ensure the availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement items;

  • Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles and assigned equipment in operable condition; and

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma and two years of post-secondary education;

  • 8+ years of experience in engineering design with at least one (1) in a management or a supervisory position in public works, transportation, or construction project management;

  • 5 years of progressive experience in all phases of public works operation functions with a good working knowledge of engineering design, paving practices and materials; and

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering Design Associate Degree;

  • A thorough knowledge of maintenance and construction principles, practices, and techniques applied to roads, bridges, drainage systems and vegetation control, including related materials, tools and equipment applicable to their maintenance;

  • Is able to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. Is able to use independent judgment as situations warrant;

  • Ability to coordinate, manage, and/or correlate data. Includes exercising judgment in determining time, place and/or sequence of operations, referencing data analyses to determine necessity for revision of organizational components, and in the formulation of operational strategy;

  • Ability to read blueprints surveys, and job specifications;

  • Working knowledge of paving practices and materials;

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as the ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech; and

  • Strong inter-personal relationship skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other employees, government officials, contractors, suppliers, and the general public -- using tact, patience and courtesy.

  • Incumbent is expected to meet attendance standards as determined by management. Employee must be available and willing to work according to the assigned schedule. Must be available and willing to work overtime (including daily, weekend and holidays) as determined by management as necessary to meet the business needs;

  • Incumbent will perform duties in a combination of outside work and an office environment. Job requires employee to perform duties at a job site; at times working along and at times working very closely with others;

  • Position requires outside work, subject to all types of weather and temperature conditions. Incumbents may be exposed to chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke, and gases and various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces;

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the use of both eyes and the ability to adjust focus; and

  • Must be able to move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and up to twenty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work.
