Job Description

Senior Transportation Plann er - Project Manager

AECOM is seeking a Senior Transportation Plann er - Project Manager, to join our diverse and holistically focused transportation planning group in Arlington, VA. This position is a great fit for a mid-level transportation professional ready to take on more responsibility and ownership of projects. The job will support a variety of planning and preliminary design/engineering studies for multimodal initiatives for local, state, and federal clients in the region. Example projects include alternative assessments, feasibility studies, corridor studies, regional/statewide plans, environmental studies (NEPA documentation), facility planning/design, and TOD/station-area plans.

Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Analyze and recommend transportation system improvements based on technological change and economic, population, land use, and traffic projections

  • Analyze data from modeling software, geographic information systems or associated databases

  • Develop and test new methods and models of transportation, economic, and environmental analysis

  • Communicate complex transportation technical information in clear, engaging and creative ways to a variety of audiences

  • Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation design issues

  • Develop design ideas for new or improved transport infrastructure, including transit stations and alignments, pedestrian projects, bicycle facilities, complete streets, connected and autonomous vehicles, highways, and parking

  • Review development plans for transportation system effects, infrastructure requirements, and compliance with applicable transportation regulations

  • Assist or lead environmental and NEPA-related projects and tasks, including EIS, EA, and CE documentation with FTA, FRA, and FHWA as lead agencies;

  • Prepare presentation materials and facilitate meetings with client staff, agency boards, and commissions and elected officials

  • Participate in public meetings and hearings to explain planning proposals, and gather feedback from those affected by projects, or achieve consensus on project designs

Project Management:

  • Manage technical tasks and projects, including managing task and project teams, presenting to and working with a range of clients, monitoring project budgets and schedules, developing technical approaches and executing work, assisting with quality control, and coordinating among technical disciplines

  • Serve as project manager or as deputy project manager, based upon a level of experience, further develop project management skills, and obtain AECOM project management certification.

Business Development/Pursuits :

  • Help maintain excellent client relationships through attentive service, project delivery, communication and professionalism, and anticipation of client needs

  • Assist business development activities through client agency and peer firm networking, internal and external knowledge sharing of AECOM technical experience and capabilities, and engaging with local and national industry trends and innovation

  • Assist project pursuit leaders and collaborate with other team members in developing proposal materials

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline

  • 6 years of related transit planning experience with some experiences in project management, client service management, design, and/or business development activities or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Some experience with local and/or federal funding and project development requirements

  • Experience in proposal development

  • Experience collaborating with operations, project, and marketing and other staff of all levels

  • Experience collaborating across disciplines and business lines for integrated delivery and growth

  • Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review

Preferred:

  • Experience and demonstrated team-building ability, internal/external networking skills, and people relationship skills

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software programs

  • Experience developing relationships with local transit clients in Maryland, Virginia, and DC

  • Experience with the Northern Virginia and DC Metro markets

  • Experience in proposal preparation

  • Experience in implementing quality assurance and quality control activities

  • Ability to interact regularly and professionally with senior management and technical staff in other offices on business and project execution

  • Experience in developing and nurturing relationships with key clients

  • License and/or registration of professional engineer or planner

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $125,000.00 - $165,000.00.
