AECOM Principal Highway Engineer in Altrincham, United Kingdom

Job Summary

The Altrincham Highways team is looking to enhance and enlarge our team with people who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to deliver. We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our team and manage the delivery of highway schemes. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the delivery of a range of highways designs and studies and to work closely with our clients.

The team is part of our national highways sector supporting major clients including Highways England, the Welsh Government, Major Contractors and Local Authorities. Our diverse range of projects provides a varied workload at all stages from feasibility, design and construction of major infrastructure.

The position will primarily be based in our Altrincham office which is situated close to the Town Centre Transport Hub with local and regional rail and transport links and has free on-site car parking. Located in a modern office housing a multi-disciplinary team we embrace a flexible working environment that gives our staff the freedom to balance their work and home life. Our current portfolio of projects include, 2 major Smart Motorway Projects within the D&B environment, the M62 J10 -12 and the M6 J21a to 26, The Third Menai Crossing feasibility study, the Deeside Corridor improvement, as well as a range of local authority schemes including major junction improvements and pavement maintenance schemes. We also lead on a range of innovation projects including advising Highways England on Air Quality and the Signaling for Road Works Initiative providing our staff the ability to gain a diverse range of experience. We also deliver services through our prominent place on regional frameworks including the AGMA Star Framework and the North Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency.

Our approach is to embrace the latest technologies in our delivery through our Digital Transformation initiative. Our legacy of using BIM and technologies is evidenced through our modeling expertise in design and asset management through our recent projects such as the Trafford Line Metrolink Extension and our Smart Motorway projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Extensive experience in the field of Highways Design with demonstrable knowledge of UK standards including DMRB and MCHW.

  • Experience of leading the technical delivery of highway projects and managing teams.

  • Experience of Checking and Approving documentation in accordance with QA standards

  • Experience of coaching and mentoring staff and day to day line management.

  • Extensive knowledge of H&S and the implementation of CDM on projects

  • Experience of hosting client meetings and building client relationships

Other preferable experience:

  • Acting as a Project Manager or discipline Lead

  • Leading a team in a multi-discipline environment

  • Contract Management

  • Site Supervision

  • Project Commercial Management

  • Collaborative Behaviours

  • BIM

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professionally Qualified, Chartered Civil Engineers or Incorporated Civil Engineers through a recognized Institutions (ICE or CIHT).

  • Applications from non-professionally qualified persons would be considered whom have extensive demonstrable levels of experience.
